Big Ideas
Local Action on Climate Change
• Improve walking and cycling safety in Oak Bay, especially on routes to schools
• Improve public transportation
• Support for local farmers, local markets, and local food production
• Advocate for the continuation of the regional compost pick up currently being piloted in parts of Oak Bay by the CRD
• Advocate for the expansion of Oak Bay’s recycling program to include soft plastics
“Climate change requires our immediate attention. Oak Bay has been making some very positive steps forward, but I would like to see more done. My goal is to provide some leadership from Council on environmental issues.”
Building Community
• Legalize secondary suites, allowing for a more inclusive, vibrant community, helping seniors to stay in their homes, and young families to pay their mortgages
• Support local small business growth, allowing Oak Bay residents to shop closer to home, and access services in their neighborhood
• Support for an Oak Bay Community Association to help involve residents in local decision making, as well as encourage neighbour-to-neighbour connections
“I grew up in a small town, with a strong sense of community. I would love to work on building our sense of community and neighbourhood in Oak Bay. A community with a diversity of ages makes it more vibrant and resilient, and I think allowing secondary suites will further these important community goals.”
Preserving Oak Bay Character
• Encourage residents to maintain their older homes, because without them, we lose our sense of history and connection to the place we love
• Encourage residents to maintain their beautiful gardens and green spaces, without the use of harmful cosmetic pesticides/herbicides, by imposing a ban on these harmful chemicals in Oak Bay and provide access to ‘green’ solutions
• Protect our urban tree canopy, because the big trees are so much a part of Oak Bay’s natural beauty
“When you have two children bursting with energy, and a very small house, you need to get out every day. I’ve walked nearly every street in Oak Bay and I love the look and feel of our community. I will work hard to preserve Oak Bay’s charm.”
